Special Counsel

Christer's practice centers on advising companies investing in U.S. businesses that own technologies classified with national security implications.

A member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Corporate Practice Group, he works primarily in international trade and transactions, dispute resolution, and general corporate law. Christer advises clients on all aspects of international business, including investment transactions in the United States and abroad, contracting with the federal government, international trade disputes, national security matters, technology transfers, homeland security issues, licensing of intellectual property, corporate compliance under export control regimes, and other multilateral trade arrangements.

He counsels clients on the often complex issues that arise in the defense and government contract fields, including contract procurement, novations and terminations; national security review of foreign acquisitions; and structuring national security arrangements to meet concerns regarding foreign ownership, control and influence. Christer also helps Eversheds Sutherland (US) clients address licensing and compliance matters under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Office of Foreign Assets Control regulations. He has extensive experience helping companies conduct internal investigations and defend charges of export control violations. In recent years Christer has represented clients in the steel, nuclear energy, defense, aerospace and high-tech industries.

Christer is a former Fulbright professor and a frequent speaker on international business and trade issues, technology transfers, including cross-border acquisitions, and structuring technology transfers to address national security concerns. He is co-editor and co-contributor to Fortresses and Icebergs: the Evolution of the Transatlantic Defense Market and the Implications for U.S. National Security Policy, a two-volume work recently published by Johns Hopkins University.
