David combines over 20 years of legal experience with over 20 years of research in chemistry.
He assists chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, and life sciences companies in securing, licensing, and enforcing intellectual property rights in the U.S. and around the world.
David has represented some of the world's largest and most sophisticated chemical companies, as well as start-up and midsize companies for which IP development fuels their growth. His practice involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications; developing opinions on patentability, invalidity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate; and counseling clients on intellectual property due diligence issues and related corporate transactions. Based in Eversheds Sutherland (US)’s Intellectual Property practice group, his principal focus centers on the intellectual properties of companies developing chemical, pharmaceutical, materials-related, polymer, and environmental technologies.
David, a former professor of chemistry at the University of Arizona, was research director of a program in chemical synthesis and catalysis and advanced materials funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Army Research Office. These experiences allow him to leverage a broad understanding of technology and industry to formulate IP strategies that align seamlessly with the client’s business goals. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
