Griff, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, manages patent portfolios for large, multinational corporations and leading research institutions.

His clients include Fortune 100 companies, technology sector leaders, emerging companies and universities. He counsels clients on the development and expansion of their IP portfolios. Griff leverages his education in electrical engineering and work experience in the telecommunication industry to advise clients in identifying and protecting innovation related to cloud computing, machine learning/artificial intelligence, blockchain, wireless communications and standards, autonomous vehicle technologies, network security, mobility, consumer electronics, e-commerce, optics, wireless charging and energy management.

Griff writes opinions, prosecutes patents, performs IP diligence in M&A transactions, negotiates and drafts IP licenses and sales, consults on IP portfolio strategies, handles post-grant reviews and inter partes reviews, performs clearance studies (also known as freedom to operate studies), manages international IP portfolios, and conducts intellectual property audits. Griff is registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

  • Advises on whether products (cryptocurrencies or digital assets), if securities, fall under SEC or CFTC purview.
  • Advises clients on global IP strategies pertaining to software inventions, including blockchain solutions.
  • Represented an Australian-based public transportation operator in connection with its acquisition of a transportation-related mobile app from a US-based technology company.
  • Represented a large financial services company in purchasing the proprietary payment card processing platform utilized by a major US bank.
