Pete serves as a co-head of the Eversheds Sutherland Global Intellectual Property Group. 

He counsels clients in a variety of global industries—including energy, chemical, manufacturing and fashion brand companies—on all aspects of product development and intellectual property protection, transactions, and controversies. With a degree in chemical engineering, Pete focuses on chemical and mechanical patent prosecution and disputes such as Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs), as well as federal trademark prosecution, cancellation and opposition proceedings, trade secrets, copyrights, transaction diligence, negotiation and drafting of IP terms in agreements, licensing, validity and infringement opinions, and litigation support.

Pete has substantial experience in intellectual property matters concerning packaged beverage manufacturing, colloids, food chemistry, petroleum products, renewable energy, polymeric nonwoven products and manufacturing equipment, paper technology, water treatment, flexible packaging, textiles, apparel and fashion brands, agricultural chemicals, printing, carbon black, polymer extrusion equipment, latex gloves, xerography, electro-chemistry, electro-luminescence, ceramics, and other aspects of polymer technology. Pete is registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

  • Represented Securian Financial Group, Inc. in the auctioned sale of its retirement plan recordkeeping business to Standard Insurance Company.
  • Represented IGM Financial, one of Canada's largest diversified wealth and asset management companies, in its purchase of an approximately 20.5 percent equity interest in Rockefeller Capital Management, for consideration of approximately $622 million.
  • Represented Vantage Nutrition LLC, a supplier of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products and services and a subsidiary of India-based ACG Group, in its acquisition of a capsule manufacturing business from Nestle Health Sciences subsidiary, HVL, LLC.
  • Represented Essentra plc and its subsidiaries in connection with their acquisition of all of the outstanding stock of Innovative Components Inc. and its Costa Rican affiliate, Componentes Innovadores Limitada.
  • Represented a global provider of essential components and solutions and its subsidiaries in their acquisition of all the outstanding stock of a manufacturing company and its Costa Rican affiliate.
  • Represented EG Group in the $330 million acquisition of the Minit Mart convenience store portfolio of TravelCenters of America LLC.
  • Represented an international agricultural firm in its formation of a joint venture with a US partner to develop and operate a 16,000-acre farm in northwest Arizona.
  • Provides trademark prosecution, portfolio management, searches and opinions to a leading electrical equipment manufacturer.
  • Represented a Spanish-speaking client in the successful appeal of a denial of asylum before the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Assists a drilling equipment manufacturer in negotiating and preparing non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements to properly protect its trade secrets.
  • Assists a nonprofit research foundation in negotiating and preparing agreements for licensing and assigning copyrighted works.
  • Assists a European gas station chain by providing trademark searches and opinions.
  • Provides the full scope of intellectual property legal services to a leading global manufacturer of polymer-based rigid and printed flexible packaging.
  • Defended a leading non-woven product equipment manufacturer in a successful patent inter partes review and appeal before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
  • Provided IP diligence and negotiation of IP terms in multiple US acquisitions for a European oilfield equipment manufacturer.
  • Represented Consolidated Edison Development Inc. in connection with its acquisition of a Texas solar project for $227 million from OCI Solar Power.
  • Represented Southwire in acquiring Sumner Manufacturing Company, Inc.
