April 14-15, 2011

11th Annual Tax Planning Strategies - U.S. and Europe Conference

Sutherland Partner Carol P. Tello is the co-chair of a panel on "Tax Treaty Abuse or Good Planning: Navigating GAARS, SAARS, and Other Anti-Treaty Shopping Rules" at the 11th Annual Tax Planning Strategies - U.S. and Europe Conference in Paris, France. The panel will examine restraints on tax treaty planning, consider what good practices are, and discuss what tax treaty abuse is, looking at the perspectives of both developed and developing countries. The panel will then discuss how to achieve the most tax-efficient cross-border structures and transactions, taking into account general anti-abuse and specific anti-abuse rules, beneficial owner concepts, and limitation on benefits provisions.

The conference will feature a Government Roundtable discussing current and future initiatives among tax administrations. Case studies and discussions will focus on corporate migration, mergers and acquisitions, financing arrangements, reorganizations and divestitures and transfer pricing issues confronting multinationals.
