2009 BIO International Convention

May 18-21, 2009

Sutherland is a proud sponsor of the 2009 BIO International Convention, May 18-21, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia.  Sutherland is also a co-sponsor of the convention’s Think & Drink Discussion Forum and Lounge.  Sutherland Partner William L. Warren is part of a panel discussion that will take place in the lounge on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, from 5:00–6:30 p.m.  The panel discussion, "Industry Is from Mars, Academia Is from Venus," is open to all registrants and is meant to encourage a collaborative and interactive discussion.  More and more emphasis is being placed on cooperation between companies and academics to kick-start translational research initiatives.  Because the goals, culture, expertise and experience of researchers in industry and academia are so different, numerous issues need to be addressed for such collaborations to run smoothly and be most productive.

The theme of this year’s convention – Heal, Fuel, Feed The World – highlights how the biotechnology industry is developing the life sciences in many vital areas.  This year, the convention spotlight will be on advances being made to improve the human condition in various ways.  Attendees will not only gain insight on the next great breakthrough drug, but also what companies are doing to develop cleaner fuels and the latest advances in sustainable agriculture.  The convention will bring together industry innovators, business leaders and decision makers to discuss industry challenges and determine workable solutions to move biotech business objectives forward.
