American Bar Association's Commission on the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education
The ABA's Commission on the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education presented "Brown v. United States of America: Debating the Issues Past, Present, and Future" on Saturday, August 7. This special event culminated a year of programs commemorating the Brown decision, as some of the nation's top judges, lawyers, scholars and policy experts debated four key issues emanating from the decision that remain unresolved today.
The program was moderated by the Commission's chair, Professor Charles J. Ogletree of Harvard Law School. Among the judges for the trial were The Honorable Stephen Breyer of the United States Supreme Court and The Honorable Robert Benham of the Supreme Court of Georgia. John Payton, of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, and Theodore M. Shaw, of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, represented the plaintiffs, and Sutherland partners Al Lindseth and Rocco Testani represented the defendants.
