ACC 2012 Annual Meeting

Sutherland is proud to be a returning Gold Sponsor of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s 2012 Annual Meeting, taking place September 30-October 3 at the World Center Marriott in Orlando. The ACC Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of in-house counsel from around the world, and since 1983, has become the premier annual event for corporate attorneys.

On Sunday evening, September 30, Sutherland and the ACC Energy Committee will co-host a cocktail reception at High Velocity in the host hotel.

Six Sutherland attorneys will participate in this year’s program:

Rachel Clingman will moderate a panel focused on risk management issues facing in-house counsel at energy companies. Lawyers participating in this program will highlight best practices and potential pitfalls in identification of risk and risk control (including counterparty and credit risk), contract negotiation and drafting, insurance and indemnity. This program, entitled "May the Force Be With You: Best Practices in Risk Management for Energy Companies," will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 4:30pm – 6:00pm.

Jennifer Fletcher will lead a panel of in-house counsel and host a workshop focused on legal project management. This workshop will highlight best practices, lessons learned and strategies for effectively managing outside counsel on legal projects, including how to scope legal matters, manage budgets and communicate effectively. The workshop, entitled "Project Management for In-house Counsel," will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 11:00am – 12:30pm.

Dorothy Franzoni will moderate a panel focused on best practices in managing an electric generation project. This panel of in-house lawyers will share best practices and lessons learned in working across disciplines and with outside counsel to ensure the scope of the matter and the budget are managed effectively. This program, entitled "How Many Lawyers Does It Take to Change a Lightbulb? How to Manage an Electric Generation Project," will take place Tuesday, October 2, 2:30pm – 4:00pm.

Catherine Krupka will speak on current issues in energy regulation and compliance. In this interactive panel, attendees will explore hypothetical compliance cases, participate in determining whether they present compliance problems and suggest how companies should respond to these problems. This program, entitled "Mamma Mia – There They Go Again: Dealing with Stricter Energy Regulators," will take place on Monday, October 1, 11:00am – 12:30pm.

Brian Rubin and Deb Heilizer will lead a program on SEC settlement negotiations which will present hypothetical scenarios and role-playing to model a face-to-face "negotiation" with the SEC, and will describe the "closed door" conversations which take place between in-house and outside counsel. This program, entitled "How to Negotiate a Settlement with the SEC," will take place on Monday, October 1, 9:00am – 10:30am.
