Sutherland Partners W. Thomas Conner and Clifford E. Kirsch are speaking at the NAVA Government & Regulatory Affairs Conference, June 7-9, 2009, at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC.
Tom is moderating a panel on "Changes in Living Benefits and Other Product Evolutions." The presentation will include: discussion of modifications and reductions in living benefits; introduction of stand-alone living benefits; changes in fund lineups; greater use of funds; and changes in distribution, and the legal and compliance issues raised by these changes.
Cliff is part of a panel on "Suitability Regulation and Challenges in a Volatile Market." The discussion will include a review of potential changes to NAIC Suitability in Annuity Transactions Model Regulation and pending amendments to NASD Rule 2821, as well as new suitability challenges, such as VA to fixed annuity exchanges, selling products of a downgraded issuer and sales to seniors.
