Speaking to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, Downeast LNG President Dean Girdis said that his company’s LNG import proposal is contemplated for “tomorrow’s market” due to the long permitting and construction timeframes for LNG regasification terminals. He also noted that New England may need imported LNG to satisfy “potentially a billion cubic feet of unmet power demand for gas . . . by the end of the decade.” The article also reports that opponents of the project do not view the terminal as economically viable.
