Miller Williams Jr. has joined the firm’s Tax Practice Group as senior counsel, expanding the group’s global transfer pricing capabilities. With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Williams advises multinational businesses on complex transfer pricing matters with an emphasis on international transfer pricing controversy, audits, advance pricing agreements (APAs), competent authority (CA), and intercompany planning, structuring, implementation, and documentation. “We are extremely pleased that Miller has joined us,” said Robert S. Setliffe, Partner who leads the US Transfer Pricing efforts. “His sophisticated experience with both US and cross-border transfer pricing tax issues greatly complements our team, and we are excited by the enormous value and perspective he will offer to our clients worldwide.” Mr. Williams’ extensive transfer pricing experience includes more than 150 APAs, CA, mutual agreement procedures (MAP) requests, and transfer pricing audits. He regularly works directly with the IRS’s APMA Program to resolve transfer pricing cases and disputes involving a variety of foreign countries including India, Canada, Germany, the UK, Spain, France, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, and China. Mr. Williams counsels clients in various industries including pharmaceutical, semiconductors, technology, retail, consumer products, motor vehicles, automotive, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, paper and pulp, building products, energy, and financial services. “I am very excited to join Eversheds Sutherland and work in a truly global law firm with a premier tax practice,” said Mr. Williams. “I regularly advise clients across the US and in a variety of foreign countries and multiple industries. Having built successful regional transfer pricing practices and most recently developing a US and global client base, joining the firm will provide me the platform to further expand and deliver transfer pricing controversy counsel to a diverse client base.” Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Williams spent the past decade as lead advisor for numerous APA projects, including the first India-US bilateral APA, and served as a client representative in double tax matters and tax controversy through audit defense, appeals and competent authority, in the US and internationally. Mr. Williams is a frequent speaker at international tax and transfer pricing seminars and has authored numerous transfer pricing articles. Before joining private practice, Mr. Williams was a senior attorney in the Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International) and Advance Pricing Agreement Program in Washington, DC and was a principal at three nationally recognized accounting firms. He also served as an officer and attorney in the US Army JAG Corps, where he served as a prosecutor, defense counsel, and administrative law attorney.
