WASHINGTON (November 19, 2009) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces that associates Brett C. Stohs and Daniel M. Buchner received the Randolph W. Thrower Award from the Court of Federal Claims Bar Association. The Thrower Award – named in honor of the Bar Association's first president, a now retired Sutherland Partner – recognizes exceptional service. The award recipients were honored at the Bar Association’s Annual Meeting on November 18.
Over a period of almost three years, Mr. Stohs and Mr. Buchner devoted more than 200 pro bono hours securing 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt status for the Bar Association. Achieving 501(c)(3) status, as of June 2009, aids the Bar Association in its continuing efforts to best serve the interests of the bench and bar and to support the Association's numerous and expanding educational and philanthropic endeavors.
"I congratulate Brett and Dan on this award," said Sutherland Pro Bono and Community Service Chair Judith A. O’Brien. "Their work carries on Sutherland's legacy of involvement in the Court of Federal Claims Bar Association and demonstrates our commitment to give back to the community."
Mr. Stohs is a member of Sutherland’s Corporate Practice Group, focusing primarily on mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Buchner is a member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, and concentrates on employee benefits, executive compensation and exempt organizations.
