Nichols has been appointed by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to the Public Finance Options task force for The Commission for a New Georgia. Mr. Nichols is a partner at Sutherland and practices in the firm's Corporate Group.
The Commission for a New Georgia was developed in June 2003 for the purpose of examining the State of Georgia's opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state government and to envision Georgia's strategic future. The commission advances its mission through a series of small, topical task forces that are composed of industry subject matter experts.
The recently named Public Finance Options task force is comprised of nine private-sector Georgians, including Mr. Nichols, SunTrust Bank President and CEO Phil Humann, Summit National Bank President and CEO Pin Pin Chau, and Citizens Trust Bank President and CEO Jim Young. The task force will examine the State's public sector finance options and make recommendations to improve the State's management.
Mr. Nichols focuses his corporate practice in the area of tax-exempt finance. He has represented the issuer, the underwriter or the conduit borrower in a broad range of tax-exempt financings, including public infrastructure, health care, other nonprofit, housing, public power and other structured financings.
