John Mobley Honored by Communities In Schools (CIS)

June 27, 2002

WASHINGTON (June 27, 2002) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP congratulates structured finance partner John Mobley for his recent honor at the National Meeting of Communities In Schools (CIS) held in April in Washington, D.C.  Georgia Senator Max Cleland presented Mr. Mobley with an award recognizing his twenty years of dedication to the organization.  Mr. Mobley currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Communities In Schools of Georgia and as a member of the Executive Committee of Communities In Schools. (National Board).  He was and is the founding Chairman of Communities In Schools of Georgia, having been selected for this role by the founding Chairman of Communities In Schools (National) Robert H. B. Baldwin, who was then the Chairman of Morgan Stanley.

CIS is the nation's leading community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life.  The investment magazine Worth named CIS as one of the nation's 100 best charities in its December 2001 issue.  Worth chose organizations based on skill, innovation, effectiveness and strategic insight.

During the 2001 school year, a network of 43 CIS programs provided services to students in 52 school systems throughout Georgia.  CIS programs provide services to students at a variety of levels, including whole-school initiatives, intensive short-term services to students with immediate needs and sustained services for those needing on-going support to succeed in school.  During the 2000-2001 school year, local CIS sites provided services to over 67,000 students within all levels of service, 9,148 students needing sustained CIS services and 9,600 parents.

Replication of the Communities In Schools model has increased substantially in Georgia.  In 1999, CIS programs were serving 15 percent of the school systems in Georgia.  During the 2002 school year, CIS programs are providing services to a third of the school systems in the State.
