John W. Benson Joins Sutherland's Atlanta Office

ATLANTA (June 24, 2004) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announced today that John W. Benson has joined the firm as Counsel in its Atlanta office.  Most recently, Mr. Benson served as Vice President and Associate Counsel for GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corporation.  At Sutherland, he will practice in the firm's Real Estate group.

While at GMAC, Mr. Benson's responsibilities included legal representation of various GMAC subsidiaries involved in commercial mortgage servicing and resolution, and providing ongoing legal counsel to the GMAC outsourcing operation in Hyderabad, India and its mortgage operations in Tokyo, Japan.  Prior to GMAC, Mr. Benson served as Principal and Chief Legal Counsel at CapMark Services, L.P. and Deputy General Counsel at AMRESCO Services, L.P.  Mr. Benson has extensive experience in the commercial mortgage backed securities ("CMBS") area and the servicing of CMBS assets.

Mr. Benson spent five years in the real estate practice group of Kilpatrick & Cody, now known as Kilpatrick Stockton.  He received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and his B.S. at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
