Sutherland Asbill & Brennan Elects Eight New Partners and Promotes Eight New Counsel

ATLANTA and WASHINGTON (January 23, 2007) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces the election of eight new partners effective January 1, 2007.  The firm also named eight new counsel.

The following lawyers in the firm's Atlanta office have been elected partner:

John W. Benson focuses his practice in the area of real estate finance, concentrating on securitized commercial real estate loans, affiliated debt products, structured finance, and resolution of non-performing or sub-performing real estate assets. 

Thomas A. Cullinan practices mainly in tax controversy, representing taxpayers in tax litigation and in a variety of administrative settings, including audits and administrative appeals.

Kevin W. King concentrates his practice on patent procurement, intellectual property counseling, and strategic portfolio management for corporations and universities, with a particular focus in medical device, pharmaceutical, and other chemical and mechanical technologies.

Carla Wong McMillian focuses her practice in the areas of dealer and franchise litigation, accountants' and professional liability and other complex business litigation.

Kristin B. Wilhelm practices in litigation, specifically in accountants' and professional liability and class action litigation.

David A. Zimmerman concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions, and as part of that practice, he represents clients in purchases and sales of businesses, private equity investments, contracts and other corporate matters.

The following lawyers in the firm's Washington office have been elected partner:

Kirstin E. Gibbs concentrates her practice on all aspects of natural gas regulation, with a particular focus on advising international and U.S.-based clients in connection with liquefied natural gas supply, siting, regulatory, maritime, commercial, project development and other matters affecting the LNG industry.

Douglas J. Leary advises public and private company clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity transactions, corporate finance, and general corporate and contract matters.

In the Atlanta office:

Thomas G. Douglass, Jr., focuses his practice on the representation of energy clients in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, power purchase agreements and other commercial transactions, as well as various aspects of project development and finance.

In the New York office:

Nicole L. Sidman practices in the area of commercial real estate concentrating primarily on securitized real estate loans.

In the Washington office:

Gregory S. Kaufman focuses his practice on securities enforcement and white collar litigation.

Todd A. Lard practices in state and local tax policy, planning and controversy.

Matthew G. McLaughlin concentrates his practice in the federal taxation of international mergers, acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations, as well as all aspects of international tax planning.

Victoria Aine O'Connor practices in complex federal tax audit and litigation matters and the federal taxation of domestic and international corporate reorganizations.

Amish M. Shah focuses his practice on tax controversy and domestic and international tax planning.

Steven C. Sparling devotes the majority of his efforts to the areas of liquefied natural gas, oil spill and emergency preparedness.
