Sutherland Elects Two New Executive Committee Members and Announces Practice Group Leadership Changes

ATLANTA and WASHINGTON (May 21, 2008) – Sutherland announces changes to its firm management and practice group leadership, effective immediately.  Two new members have been named to the firm’s Executive Committee, its governing body, and new leaders have been named to the firm’s Litigation and Corporate practices, its largest groups.

 “We are grateful for the many contributions these partners have made in firm and practice management," said Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman.  “Our new leaders will also steer us to continued success."

Jennifer W. “Jenny" Fletcher and James D. “Jim" Darrow have been elected to three-year terms on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Ms. Fletcher, resident in Atlanta, also serves as team leader of the Construction Industry Practice.  In her national practice, Ms. Fletcher resolves complex matters representing construction managers, developers, general contractors, owners, municipalities and specialty contractors.

Mr. Darrow, resident in Washington, is focused on corporate transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and joint ventures.  He also represents lenders and borrowers in secured and unsecured lending transactions.

Reginald J. “Reggie" Clark and Nicholas T. “Nick" Christakos will step down from the Executive Committee after three years of service. 

As to practice leadership, Sutherland has appointed John H. Fleming and Richard G. Murphy, Jr. to serve as co-leaders of the Litigation Practice Group. 

Mr. Fleming, resident in Atlanta, focuses on resolution of complex business disputes, including franchise litigation, professional liability litigation, major litigation involving insurance companies and international arbitration.

As the senior litigator in the firm's Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group, Mr. Murphy has represented organizations in various industries, including banking, factoring, telecommunications and nuclear energy in court and in various forms of alternative dispute resolution.  He resides in Washington.

Sutherland also named Cynthia M. Krus and Eric R. Fenichel to serve as co-leaders of the Corporate Practice Group, succeeding Thomas C. Herman.

Ms. Krus, resident in Washington, has extensively advised her clients on transactional matters, including initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, proxy contests exchange and rights offerings, reorganizations, in addition to a broad range of corporate governance issues and developments.

Mr. Fenichel’s practice encompasses a broad array of financing transactions, including structured finance and securitization, derivatives and structured products, commodity financing arrangements and general corporate finance.  He resides in Atlanta.
