WASHINGTON (November 28, 2011) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces today that Carol P. Tello, a partner in the firm’s Tax Practice Group, has been elected to the American College of Tax Counsel. The honor is extended to outstanding attorneys who have at least 15 years of experience in the tax field and who have maintained a high standard of excellence and ethical performance in their work.

Ms. Tello, currently chair of the Foreign Activities of U.S. Taxpayers committee (FAUST), focuses her practice primarily on international taxation matters, including a range of cross-border tax planning and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) controversy matters for both business entities and individuals. Much of her work has been for insurance companies in the cross-border context. Ms. Tello has particular experience in cross-border restructuring transactions, inbound corporate transactions, withholding matters and treaty interpretation issues, as well as cross-border taxation of corporate executives and the U.S. taxation of non-U.S. citizens. Prior to joining Sutherland, Ms. Tello worked in the IRS Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International) and as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Commissioner (International).
Ms. Tello is the sixth Sutherland attorney to be named a Fellow in the College. She joins Mr. Libin as well as Herbert N. Beller, Reginald J. Clark, N. Jerold Cohen and James K. Hasson, Jr. Nationwide, approximately 700 lawyers have been elected Fellows in the College. The organization supports tax policy research and studies and comments on matters affecting the U.S. tax system.
