ATLANTA (October 26, 2012) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP Partner Nikola R. Djuric has been recognized for Distinguished Service by the Atlanta Bar Estate Planning and Probate Section. The new award is given to the candidate who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the legal community and to the practice of estate planning and probate-related law.
“Our Board decided not to make it an annual award, because we didn’t want to have to select someone each year – we wanted to make the award only when the Board really felt it was well-deserved," said Loraine M. DiSalvo, Estate Planning and Probate Section chair. “Nick Djuric was the immediate and unanimous choice for our first recipient, and he truly sets the standard we want future recipients to meet. We didn’t name the award after Nick because we thought it might embarrass him."
As a member of the Fiduciary Law Section’s Legislation Committee, Mr. Djuric has been involved in numerous pieces of legislation, most notably the Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care Act in 2007 and, as 2010 chair of the committee, legislation which clarified the ambiguity of estate planning documents for 2010 decedents. He is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and has served as an adjunct professor of law at John Marshall Law School and Georgia State University College of Law. Mr. Djuric also gives his time freely as a speaker at various estate planning councils, conferences and seminars.
