Sutherland, ServeHAITI Tap New York in Continuing Haitian Relief Efforts

March 31, 2011

NEW YORK (March 31, 2011)Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP will open its doors this evening, Thursday, March 31, 2011, to sponsor a benefit for ServeHAITI, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, faith-based organization focused on achieving a better quality of life for the people of Haiti. Founded a decade ago, ServeHAITI operates on a community-centric philosophy and works to provide support, resources and education to empower Haitian community leaders and residents to self-sustain despite continuous regional turmoil.

The cocktail reception, will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the 40th floor of the Grace Building, located at 1114 Avenue of the Americas, New York. The fundraiser will offer an Artisans Market that will showcase the work of several Haitian artists, and feature guest speaker, Dr. Leopold Bourgouin, Medical Director of ServeHAITI’s medical facility in Grand-Bois.

“As the people of Haiti struggle to endure seemingly endless political upheaval, poverty, health crises and natural disasters, the need for adaptable, resilient solutions is more important than ever," said Sutherland Partner and ServeHAITI’s Treasurer and Board Member Peter J. Anderson. “ServeHAITI has worked within the community to provide aid where it is most needed, and in a way that is self-sustaining. We don’t just throw the money at the problem and move on—we partner in teacher training and other educational programs that also serve the region."

Peter has been involved with ServeHAITI since its founding in 2001. With the support of his Sutherland partners, he works in Haiti five to six weeks each year at its medical facility located in the mountains of Grand-Bois, 50 miles from Port-Au-Prince. On average, the clinic sees 1,500 patients a month, but those numbers have increased since the cholera outbreak in October.

In addition to the medical facility, ServeHAITI continues to focus on the importance of clean water by drilling community wells and providing point-of-use filtration systems.

Five Prime Advisors is also a sponsor of the New York benefit. Five Prime Managing Director, Robert S. King serves as a member of the ServeHAITI Board of Directors. The New York-based company has offices in Germany and Brazil and offers advisory services to corporate sellers and buyers including mergers and acquisitions.
