Sutherland’s Business Development Curriculum Receives First Place in LMA Your Honor Awards

March 31, 2010

ATLANTA and WASHINGTON (March 31, 2010) – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces that its Business Development Curriculum won first place in the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) Your Honor Awards in the Practice Development Category.

Sutherland’s Business Development Curriculum provides learning opportunities from theory to practice supporting individual attorneys and teams in successfully developing, generating and sustaining client relationships. Because client relationships are built and nurtured by every team member regardless of seniority or role, the curriculum was designed to have a meaningful and measurable impact on the success of attorneys ranging from associates to senior partners and practice group leaders.

“Our Business Development Curriculum assists our attorneys in providing the best client service possible," said Sutherland’s Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman. “With information from our client feedback program, we were able to address our clients’ needs directly through this training program. Successful business development results from strong client relationships and acquiring the skills that allow you to meet and exceed client needs and expectations."

“One of the most rewarding aspects of instituting this curriculum is seeing the interplay between the development of this specific skill set with a lawyer’s overall professional development. Through this training, many lawyers recognize, develop and capitalize on strengths they might not have known they possessed, as well as learn how their unique talents contribute to every client relationship," said Director of Professional Development Kristy Weathers.

The LMA Your Honor Awards recognize creativity, execution, achievement and overall excellence in legal marketing, business development and communications. As the only awards program of its kind in the legal marketing industry, the LMA Your Honor Awards distinguish law firms, law-related organizations and service providers who set new standards for innovation in finding, developing and retaining profitable business.

“I thank everyone for all their hard work putting together our award-winning program," said Chief Client Service Officer Felice C. Wagner. “This program draws upon multiple departments within our firm, and each contribution strengthens our ability to provide outstanding service to our attorneys."
