With insight gained from in-house legal work in the hospitality industry, Ellen Smith is an integral member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Real Estate Practice Group. Formerly a senior attorney at InterContinental Hotels Group in Atlanta, Ellen’s practice focuses on the hospitality industry, institutional investment, development and finance. She is also a participant in Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Brazil Initiative. From September to December 2010, she worked on real estate and hospitality matters as visiting counsel in the law firm of TozziniFreire Advogados in São Paulo, Brazil.
While at InterContinental, Ellen worked on development, acquisitions, joint ventures and management agreements for the InterContinental and Crowne Plaza brands in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean region. She also helped with several major hotel renovation and refurbishment projects for the InterContinental brand, as well as with the impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the company’s properties.
