Michael Petrov advises clients in the energy sector on a wide range of transactional matters, with a focus on finance-related matters.

As a member of Eversheds Sutherland's US Finance Practice Group, Michael's practice includes working on mortgage indentures, secured credit facilities, unsecured bilateral and syndicated credit facilities, direct and agented private placements and government-guaranteed financings. Michael also advises clients with respect to Rural Utilities Service (RUS) regulatory and loan program requirements and provides general finance and corporate representation.

Michael has regularly represented clients in economic development incentives transactions for energy and industrial facilities, real estate developments and other major capital projects and has experience advising energy-industry clients on acquisitions, project development and various other commercial transactions.

As a member of Eversheds Sutherland's International Trade Team, Michael frequently counsels clients on matters arising under US economic sanctions, export controls and other national security and foreign policy trade-related regulations. Specifically, Michael is experienced in advising and representing clients before the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in licensing and other trade-related matters.

  • Represented CIM Group in a significant investment in an affiliate of MAS CanAm, a producer of renewable natural gas.
  • Advised in the sale of a majority equity interest in Element Markets, LLC to TPG’s The Rise Fund.
  • Represented Oglethorpe Power Corporation in the offer and sale of $500 million first mortgage bonds.
  • Served as counsel to Georgia Transmission Corporation in the remarketing of more than $94 million in bonds (GTC Vogtle Project).
  • Served as underwriters' counsel to Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the offering and issuance of more than $113 million in bonds (Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. Project).
