Tax attorney Paul Jacokes represents domestic and multinational companies in federal income tax planning and controversy matters—with a heavy emphasis on financing transactions and complex financial instruments. A member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Tax Practice Group, Paul advises clients on tax issues related to hedging financial and other types of business risks through derivatives, in both a domestic and international context. Paul also has extensive experience with tax issues pertaining to securities and commodities dealers and traders, hedge funds and insurance companies. He recently advised a client on several innovative transactions involving securitization of insurance risks.
Paul served as legislation counsel to the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation and, for several years, as in-house tax counsel advising a large financial institution’s corporate finance department. He also taught a graduate course on the taxation of corporate mergers and acquisitions as adjunct faculty of Georgetown University Law School.
